Remote access to my PC from here in Negril

As most of you should know I’m here in Negril with the kids still and we’re having a blast. I am still working online and managing my business has been a little difficult. No, it’s not the beach and all the fun in the sun we’re having. It’s the fact I can’t get any work done with this laptop. I’m missing a bunch of files I need from my home PC including some rather important invoices I forgot to copy over as well as some personal stuff like my favorite pictures from the family album and more.

It would have been nice to bring my full desktop but it wasn’t practical as we were not even sure where we would be living and having the laptop took on more importance as I realized we would be here longer than a month or two and I would need to have something to maintain my work schedule. I’m liking some aspects of the laptop but I miss my PC. When I realized I needed those invoices I had my mom search for them and them I tried to have her upload them to my server so I could access them. What a nightmare that was. Mom has a little skill on the PC but trying to get here to FTP some files for me was a bit too much. She just couldn’t get it for me and I was stuck without some important business documents.

I racked my brain for a day and then realized what I needed was remote access too my home PC from this laptop. I had used services like PCAnywhere and even telnet in the past but the latest and greatest appears to be RemotePC. I downloaded their 30 day free trial software from their site at RemotePC.com and installed it in about a minute. Within 15 minutes with a little help from mom at my PC I was up and running with no limitations. I’m using the remote access over a wireless router and a highspeed DSL connection from Jamaica and running my PC located in Florida with no trouble at all. I was able to login to my PC and upload the necessary files to my server myself and grabbed the invoices I needed from my laptop.

By the end of the day I had my invoices sent and I was playing around with Photoshop from my PC because I neglected to install it on my laptop. I built a new graphic and emailed it to myself from my PC over the remote access connection and all with very little to no lag or delays at all. I was most impressed that the software really does feel like I’m logged into my PC and the speeds are very good. I may actually pay for it and keep this software and for those who know me thats a tough one to do.
