Summer time heat and keeping cool

It’s the middle of summer and hot as I have ever seen it before in my life. The heat in Negril this summer is almost unbearable. We spend lots of time in the water and the kids are becoming excellent swimmers with all the time and experience they have been getting in the pool, at the beach and in the rivers around us.

We definitely spend more time in the pool and it seems to be everyones favorite activity. We usually hit the pool every afternoon and Robby has been known to jump in before breakfast for a morning swim and cool down. He can’t swim very but he’s very pool safe and this pool is actually designed well enough that he can get in and out from any part of the pool so I let him run down on his own while I cook something and he spends 30 minutes or so at the start of most days in the pool.

He does skip breakfast quite often but he usually makes it back upstairs in time for pancakes or french toast soon enough.

Some days we just have to get out of the house so we head over to the beach and spend some time relaxing in the sand and surf. The kids really love the waves and water and the conditions have been near perfect beach weather so we’ve had many opportunities to play and enjoy. The sun can be tough so we limit the exposure to no more than an hour when possible but thats not always perfect either. They do love the water and we have been known to spend 3 or more hours out in the hot sun. I cover the kids in a decent SPF lotion but who knows how good a job that actually does.

We usually take some friends with us when we go to the beach so we can have more fun and better learning experiences. The children are doing much better with sharing their things and more used to having friends who want to play with their things. Robby is still very possessive but he can be convinced to share and play. Thats new for him as in the past he would not allow people to touch his things. He is still kinda like that with some adults though.

An of course we try to get over to the many rivers and waterfalls around us. Our last trip to Roaring rivers was a super beautiful day with lots of sunshine, rain and the crystal clear drinking waters of Roaring River.
